A lot more than at the food store!!! Yesterday we went to the Farmers Market and I wanted to see how much $120 would get us there. So we hit the ATM up for $120 and headed on over. First stop was the produce stand and got:
- 2 bunches of bananas
- 4 big onions
- 10-15 red potatoes
- 2 lbs of green beans
- 2 eggplants
- 10 roma tomatoes
Then next we headed over the the meat counter and got 3 nice size sirloin steaks!
Now over to the poultry counter:
- 1 dozen large eggs
- 2lbs extra lean grounds turkey
- 3.5 lbs boneless chicken breast
From there we went to the seafood counter and picked up:
- A HUGE filet of salmon
- 4 good size filets of talipia
Next up is dairy:
- 2 1/2 gallons of milk
- bag a banana chips for a snack for our son
- 2 cookies for the little ones
- 1/2 lb of coffee
- 2 pizza shells
- 2.5 lbs of shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 cans of pizza sauce
- tube of tomato paste

The Farmers Markets are great! Looks like you really made out well and saved $.
Wow, that's terrific! I would feel so awesome walking out with that much for $100!
We don't have one close by, so I get bummed about farmer's markets. :) There's one in Madison in the summer, but it's a half hours drive up there, and then finding parking is a true feat. We tend not to go as much as we should. If we hit flea markets, though, we find vendors and get lots of fresh veggies for VERY little money. Love those.
We did just find out that there's a salvage grocery not too far from us - we're going to try to get there next week. How cool!
ryn: I agree totally - count the blessings...they'll help you get through. :) :)
Keep up the great work!
Wow you got some great stuff!! Lots of variety too :-)
Hi,
I noticed your posts about saving money on groceries and wanted to send this along for possible story consideration on Holiday strategic shopping that conquers budgets with bulk shopping and "buddy bonding"…
There will be a great deal of "making a list and checking it twice" to maximize budgets this Holiday season, and one strategy is in "buddy shopping" – it's all about the "power of two" for cost-effective and strategic warehouse club shopping for the Holidays. We work with BJ's Wholesale Club and shoppers can save while taking advantage of the benefits of bulk and multi-pack savings. In addition to their own coupons, BJ's accepts manufacturer's coupons – the only warehouse club that does – that allows for multiple coupons to be redeemed on multi-packs of "individual for sale" packaged items. An example would be: BJ's sells a 2 pack of mouth wash that is normally sold and packaged as individual items in other major retail stores; you could use up to two coupons on this type of packaging in addition to many other items – and then split the cost and items in half between shopping partners – for even more savings.
Items great for divvying up include paper goods, toiletries, produce, meats, candy, cookie and muffin variety packs, juices, soda, bottled water, soap and cleaners…just to name a few. By splitting big packages, Holiday shoppers are also spending less per item than if purchased at a local grocery store (more than 30 percent over supermarket prices).
Besides savings on money, time and gas, shopping partners can finish off the "savings experience" with their own kitchen-side "packaging party," to divy up the purchases and then settle back knowing they've checked off their lists with the best savings possible.
Thanks for your consideration,
Tracy Tilson
